In 2011 the Everybody Benefits coalition, lead by Connecticut Working Families, made history by passing the nation’s first statewide law guaranteeing paid sick days for service workers. The program went into effect in 2012, and it is a success. Workers no longer have to choose between their health and their job. In a recent survey, companies also reported that the program has had very little impact on their business. In 2013, the coalition defended the paid sick days program agains a bill designed to considerably weaken the benefits to workers. Now, efforts are focused on making sure workers know their rights, and on expanding and strengthening our paid sick days program.
