Mission:  WE (workers and employers) Care for Rhode Island is a broad-based, grassroots coalition which began in 2013 and includes small business owners, workers, policy centers, and health and family advocates.  Coalition members are united to ensure the elimination of gender inequality in order to improve the quality of life for individuals and families throughout our state.

Accomplishments:  Last year the WECare RI Coalition successfully encouraged state legislators to pass Temporary Caregivers Insurance (TCI), which was then signed by Governor Chafee in July 2013.  This important legislation made Rhode Island the 3rd state in the country to offer paid family leave to workers by expanding the existing Temporary Disabilities Insurance program.  Workers can now take up to 4 weeks of leave to bond with a new child or care for a seriously ill family member, while getting paid 2/3 of their regular wages.  This law went into effect on January 8, 2014 and is already helping hundreds of hard working families across Rhode Island.
