CA, IL, MI, NY, PA: Restaurant Opportunities Center (ROC)

Restaurant Opportunities Center represents and organizes restaurant workers across the country.  ROC helps restaurant workers address injustice on the job, builds campaigns to encourage restaurant owners to take the ‘high road’ to profitability and engages in research that supports positive policy outcomes for restaurant workers.  ROC also organizes and involves members in direct involvement in advocacy work around policy changes like paid sick days and expansion of paid leave laws.  Paid sick days is a priority for ROC members and they are engaged in various local and statewide campaigns because of this.

NJ: New Jersey Policy Perspective

New Jersey Policy Perspective is a respected, nonpartisan think tank that has been conducting research and analysis of fiscal policy in New Jersey since 1997. NJPP’s focus is on tax and budget policy as well as fiscal policy as it relates to working families. Among the successful efforts to advocate for progressive solutions to fiscal issues was NJPP’s support for an increase in the minimum wage to exceed the federal minimum wage in 2006. NJPP has also been active in working with the NJ Time to Care Coalition in supporting the successful effort to make New Jersey only the second state with a paid family leave law, and NJPP continues to study the effectiveness of the program and to advocate for its expansion. NJPP is also actively involved in the coalition’s work on paid sick days.
