Winning Progressive Work-Family Policies Through Law

Family Values @ Work is a national network of local coalitions in 27 states leading the growing movement for family-friendly workplace policies such as paid sick days and family leave insurance which will result in better individual and public health, and greater financial security for workers and their families, businesses, and communities.

Paid Sick and Safe Days for America’s Workers: The Healthy Families Act

Our work has built momentum at the state and local levels towards a national standard for paid sick days in the form of the Healthy Families Act (HFA) which was introduced and sponsored in the U.S. House of Congress (H.R. 3409) by Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, [D-CT-3], and sponsored in the Senate (S.1664) by Sen. Bernie Sanders [I-VT]. This law will guarantee that workers earn up to 7 paid sick and safe days each year. If passed, workers will be able to use paid time off for personal care and safety, family illness, visit a doctor, or deal with the aftermath of domestic or sexual violence.

Paid Leave for ALL: The Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act

Our work at the state and local levels have demonstrated viable models and the positive impact a national standard for paid leave would have on American life. The Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act was introduced U.S. House of Congress (H.R. 3481) by Rep. Rosa DeLauro [D-CT-3],  and in the Senate (S. 1714) by Senator Kristin Gillibrand [D-NY] to provide paid leave for all workers in America. The program will pool small contributions to guarantee that workers can draw wages while out on leave to care for a new child or a serious personal or family illness.
