Laura, a first generation college graduate, grew up in a working class home and witnessed first-hand how the struggles of working paycheck-to-paycheck can negatively affect working families, specifically, her parents’ mental and physical health. It took her years to realize that a great deal of the suffering endured by her family and her community was a direct result of policy choices. After this realization, Laura began working to build the power it takes to push legislators to make better choices.
As FV@W’s culture change manager, Laura collaborates with the Network on tactics meant to demonstrate that we all were born to give and receive care, that systems born from deep-seated, individualistic narratives around caregiving are causing collective harm, and that together we can envision and form a caregiving economy that allows us all to thrive.
In her off-hours, Laura enjoys spending time with her friends and family, hiking, walking her dog, and not killing her houseplants. Raising her daughter as a proud, anti-racist feminist who understands the intersection of racial, gender, and economic justice will be her most consequential project.
Laura graduated from Indiana University and currently resides in beautiful North Carolina.
