FV@W Condemns President Trump’s Illegal Federal Funding Cuts

News

Family Values @ Work and our Network of state coalitions across the nation are appalled by President Trump’s illegal executive order halting almost all federal funding to impactful social programs funded by financial grants and loans from federal agencies. This action rescinds critical supports like SNAP, Head Start, and VAWA protections for people who are disabled, for children and for individuals who are unemployed or underemployed. It is an attack on our care economy, which is already grossly underfunded and under-supported by legislators and those in power. This is a dangerous precedent that will result in widespread economic and social upheaval impacting every community in every state.

We will not quietly accept this affront to our work and the work of the thousands of members of the FV@W extended Network: work to win paid time to care for all at the state level as well as a federal paid family and medical leave program, paid sick and safe days, and affordable and high-quality childcare.

Care is all the more important in times of challenge and adversity. Those of us who fight for equitable and just systems will not bow down to our government engaging in economic violence, or being weaponized to spread gender or racial injustice. We remain committed to working with and for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and unemployed and under-employed people to win federal policies that will strengthen our families, and in turn, our workplaces and economy.

Family Values @ Work is in solidarity with our Network partner, Main Street Alliance, in their emergency legal challenge filed today with the National Council of Nonprofits, the American Public Health Association, SAGE and Democracy Forward, requesting a Temporary Restraining Order against President Trump’s EO halting nearly all federal funding of social support programs receiving financial grants and loans from federal agencies.

This Restraining Order would allow critical services to continue tomorrow, including childcare centers and supplemental nutrition programs that support working families and people of all ages. We will continue to work in solidarity with others who come together, in the growing movement to oppose the arbitrary and harmful executive orders which disregard communities and result in irreparable harm, and reversal of important work to assure that all people in every community have the chance to get their basic needs met, get the care they need, and to thrive.
