FV@W Statement on the Reintroduction of the Paycheck Fairness Act on Equal Pay Day

Press Releases

Today on Equal Pay Day Family Values @ Work applauds the reintroduction of the Paycheck Fairness Act by Rep. Rosa DeLaura (D-CT) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and the reintroduction of the Equal Pay Day Resolution from Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL). This critical legislation would help close the gender wage equity pay gap. In 2023, working women earned 83 percent of men’s earnings for full-time, year-round work, and 75 percent when including part-time seasonal work. It is crucial that women who are many times the sole providers and caregivers in their families receive pay equal to men.

Closing the pay equity gap is not only about fairness, it is a necessity to ensure that families are able to thrive. In the absence of paid family and medical leave and paid sick and safe days, pay equity is a step toward realizing a world where workplace protections ensure that all workers, regardless of gender, are compensated equitably for their work. Congress should take action and pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. The time for pay equity is now.
