Tyla Barnes

Tyla Barnes is a filmmaker and storyteller whose work sits at the intersection of art and advocacy. She uses film as a form of activism — creating space for conversations around visibility, injustice, community care, and the lived experiences of people who are often overlooked. Her projects have supported organizations including the NAACP, Beats by Dre, Apple, and more, focusing on real people, real stories, and the emotions behind them. With a background in both documentary and commercial storytelling, Tyla approaches every project with emotional depth, cultural intentionality, and a belief that storytelling can heal, empower, and transform communities.

As a Caring Out Loud Fellow, Tyla is interested in how storytelling can make people feel seen and heard. Whether directing a short film or collaborating on a community campaign, Tyla’s goal is simple: help people feel understood, help communities recognize their own power, and use creativity to spark healing and change.
