California’s bill to expand job protection to workers taking leave for a family member is now on the desk of Governor Jerry Brown. SB406 recognizes the diversity of California families, which have the second highest percentage of multi-generational households in the country.
A recent study showed more than 40% of caregivers for Alzheimer’s patients were not covered under the current law. The legislation, which protects workers who care for a seriously ill grandparent, grandchild, sibling, parent-in-law or adult child, passed after an all-out team effort by the California Work & Family Coalition, advocates, caregivers and women’s organizations. They are asking individuals and organizations across the state to reach out to Governor Brown, urging him to sign this important bill.
