The Statue of Liberty’s welcome has not changed, and neither should our nation’s. People come to the United States to make life better for themselves and their families; immigrants contribute in multiple ways to our community and to our culture.
The decision by the Trump administration to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA – a program that protected 800,000 young immigrants from deportation and provided them with the ability to work and go to school – flies in the face of who we claim to be as a country. It hurls every one of these young people and their loved ones into a state of constant fear. The threat to end DACA also emboldens the violent white supremacists who wreaked havoc in Charlottesville just two weeks ago.
As a nation that prides itself on valuing families, we cannot allow these families to be torn apart. We call on all those participating in or following the Family Values @ Work network to join us in the following steps:
Call your representatives in Congress to demand they enact a permanent solution for Dreamers and their families, starting with the Dream Act of 2017. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to connect to your Senators and House representative.
Help elevate the voices of DACAmented youth by sharing their stories on Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtags #DefendDACA and #HereToStay.
