Ellen Bravo and Leaders Discuss Paid Leave

News

Popular SiriusXM radio show, “Work and Life” with Stew Friedman, invited Ellen Bravo (founding director of Family Values at Work), Washington State Republican Senator Joe Fain, and Hawaii Democratic State Representative Kaniela Ing to discuss the need for paid family and medical leave (beyond parental leave) and the economics for employers and employees and societal impact.

Senator Fain and Representative Ing shared their compelling stories of becoming dads for the first time and the ways in which they’ve worked across the political aisle to build coalitions of support for a policy that affects everyone, benefits everyone, is good for business, and is not costly.

Stew and Ellen discussed the accelerating pace of states enacting paid family leave laws and other legislative victories, how this policy helps small business owners compete with larger corporations and how it is affordably funded, Ky Dickens’ great new film, Zero Weeks (which is winning all sorts of awards), and how paid leave is no longer a “women’s issue” as millennial dad’s are demanding to be involved at home.
