“Everybody deserves time to rest, to heal, to provide care and to thrive, to attend kids’ school events or a loved one’s medical appointment and sometimes to grieve – on top of tending to the details of family survival. The U.S. lags all our economic competitors on this front.
We applaud New York City Mayor DeBlasio for his bold initiative to ensure ten paid personal days for everyone in the city working in firms with more than five employees. The legislation, which would add paid time off for half a million people, is a huge boost for low-wage workers and would make New York City a pacesetter in the U.S. in supporting a healthy and productive workforce.
New York City had been an early leader on paid sick days. The Mayor’s initiative will provide a crucial supplement to that time.”
