Statement by Family Values @ Work Co-Directors Ellen Bravo and Wendy Chun-Hoon on Trump Administration Transgender Policy

“Family Values @ Work denounces the Trump Administration’s proposal to jeopardize the rights and safety of individuals by meddling with the definition of gender under Title IX. Their effort to erase the reality of transgender and gender nonconforming individuals is blatant, intentional and malicious. This new initiative follows a series of anti-trans measures by this administration, withdrawing existing policies that recognized gender identity in schools, prisons, homeless shelters and the military.

“This plan gives a green light to institutionalize discrimination against transgender and gender nonconforming individuals’ in the workplace, healthcare and education. In a year when violence and brutality against transgender people could reach an all-time high, such a proposal amounts to condoning, if notencouraging, these hate crimes.

“We commit to follow the strong leadership of trans fighters for justice within our movement who are putting the call out for resistance. Family Values @ Work will do everything in our power to oppose this new attack and fight for full recognition of the rights of all human beings.”
