Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is remembered every year because of his lifelong pursuit of justice for all, and his resistance to racism and oppression in all of their forms. Today, Family Values @ Work commemorates Dr. King’s legacy by doubling down on our commitment to fight authoritarianism and white supremacy wherever they lie, but especially in the policies and institutions that affect workers and their families.
Everyone––no matter where they work, where they live, or who they love––deserves to be able to take time away from work to heal and care for loved ones without risking their jobs and their livelihoods. Communities that have historically been impacted by racism, gender discrimination, and lack of access to resources have a right to care and be cared for simply by being human. Our economic justice work aligns with Dr. King’s fight against poverty and economic violence, who said, “The time has come for an all-out world war against poverty.”
Today, FV@W and our Network celebrate the resilience of the human spirit, and commit to continuing to work to ensure that that resilience is an option and not a way of life.
