(WASHINGTON, DC)– After a decade of involvement in the Family Values @ Work network, Gayle Goldin is leaving her role as FMLI Campaign Advisor to join the Women’s Bureau at the U.S. Department of Labor. The Family Values @ Work national staff and state partners are so grateful for the gifts of strategic insight, political savvy, caring and good humor that she brought to our movement.
In 2011, Gayle, along with a group of other women in Rhode Island, reached out to Family Values @ Work for technical assistance on advocating for a law to create paid family leave. Along the way, Gayle went from an advocate, to a FV@W state anchor, to a state senator, all with the goal of passing paid family leave. In 2013, Rhode Island became the third state to pass such a program, and the first to do so with a provision ensuring that people would not have to fear losing their jobs if they used it.
In her FV@W staff staff role, Gayle used her experience as a strategist, community builder, and policy analyst to help FV@W coalitions pass paid family leave in the next seven states, and served as a sounding board for all of our network members working on paid leave. Over the years, she wrote opinion pieces on paid leave, spoke at conferences, co-authored reports, and helped propel paid leave at the federal level.
“Being part of Family Values @ Work was an extraordinary experience,” Goldin said. “I had the pleasure of working with dynamic, smart, inspiring staff and advocates who pushed me to be the best version of myself. As I move onto my next career challenge, I take with me the power of organizing and the value of keeping those who are most impacted by a policy at the center of decision making. I know the Family Values @ Work network will continue to grow and strengthen in the coming months and years.”
All of us at FV@W wish Gayle the best of luck in her new endeavor.
