The coalition known as #MPLSWorks has been leading the campaign for a Minneapolis Working Families Agenda with a series of large rallies at City Hall, fast food restaurants, a downtown bank and other locations. They’ve convinced the City Council to move two parts of that agenda—paid sick days and fair scheduling.
The Council is reviewing proposals for a higher minimum wage as well. As Council Member Elizabeth Glidden, one of the sponsors, noted, this nation has a long history of setting standards for workers, but the rules haven’t kept pace with changes in society. She praised the proposals as “a good, concrete way to take action to address disparities and increased inequality.”
