As an indigenous Mayan from Guatemala, Luis grew up in poverty, a strong underlying motivator of his involvement in Social Justice that began at an early age. Later upon immigrating to the US, Luis again experienced poverty as a day laborer and working in temp agencies. Driven by these experiences, he began working with social justice causes devoted to organizing low-wage workers in the US.
With a deep commitment to fighting for race, gender, and economic equity, Luis believes that the most effective method of finding lasting, long-term solutions stems from leadership among those most affected by the problem. A collective strategy rooted in political education and not the dominant narrative is essential to the process of driving change and social justice.
In his spare time, Luis is a DJ and enjoys bringing people together by sharing his Latinx heritage.
