Wakisha Newton (she/her)

Childcare Organizer and State Lead

Wakisha started working in childcare as early as 2007, but her love for children started when her first neice was born when she was only 8 years old. From then she always knew that children needed to be loved and well cared for. Wakisha received a degree in Child and Family Development. With this deegree, she worked in state licensing for childcare facilities for 13 years. In that experience, she observed the differences between well-funded communities and lower income communities and how the resources were different for the families.

When she became a mother, Wakisha struggled to find a childcare program that met the needs for her family. Wakisha’s goal in working with FV@W is to ensure that all children and families have affordable and quality childcare where children can thrive and learn. When she is not working, Wakisha enjoys spening time with family, going out with her friends, and doing community service with her sorority Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
