The Coalition for Healthy Families and Workplaces is made up of over 110 organizations fighting for paid sick days at the local, state, and national level. The coalition is led by PathWays PA, an organization serving women and families throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. Our partners include labor leaders, religious organizations, LGBTQ advocates, businesses, and other advocacy groups. As a Coalition, we believe that no one should be forced by illness to choose between the job they need and the family they love.

In 2013, after a successful campaign, Philadelphia City Council passed a bill that would allow workers in businesses of five employees or more to earn paid sick days to care for themselves and their families. After the bill was vetoed by Mayor Nutter, the Coalition and its partners in City Council vowed to continue the fight. The Coalition worked to pass a paid sick days bill for businesses who contract with the city or receive city subsidies, which passed with overwhelming support and has now become law. The Coalition is also working on issues of equal pay, family friendly policies, and affordable childcare, and is supporting legislation on these issues at the local, state, and national level.
