The Washington Work and Family Coalition believes our families, communities, and economy will be stronger when working people have enough income to cover the basics while protecting their own health and caring for their loved ones. Our successes – in partnership with larger coalitions – include Initiative 1433, passed by voters in November 2016, which guarantees paid sick days across the state starting in January 2018, and earlier paid sick leave victories in Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane. Now we are close to winning paid family and medical leave to cover those times like the birth of a child or a serious health condition when people need extended periods of time away from their jobs. Our statewide Coalition includes representatives of seniors, women, labor, health professionals, children’s advocates, faith communities, small business owners, low-income workers, diverse communities, and other organizations.
