The California Work & Family Coalition is a collaborative of unions and community groups protecting every Californian’s right to a job and a life. We believe that no one should have to risk their job to take care of themselves and their families. We focus on transforming California laws to provide all workers critical rights to:
In 2002, the Coalition’s efforts led to the successful passage of the Paid Family Leave law, making California the first state in the nation to establish a family leave insurance program for workers taking time off to care for a new child or a sick family member. San Francisco, California was also the first in the nation to establish a city-wide paid sick days policy. The Coalition also helped to pass a law that ensures continued health care coverage for California workers on pregnancy or childbirth-related leave. In addition to its policy efforts, the Coalition raises public awareness about family friendly workplaces through trainings on Family Leave Rights and resources on family leave, paid sick days and ending caregiver discrimination.
